A Slate-Bed Pool Table Is Not Furniture

A standard 8-foot slate-bed pool table weighs 700–900 lbs total — about 450 lbs of that is the slate bed itself, in 3 sections. Moving a slate-bed table requires complete disassembly: rails come off, felt comes off the slate, slate comes off the cabinet, cabinet ships separately. Then reverse the process at the destination — and the slate has to be re-leveled to within 1/64 of an inch tolerance for play. Most general movers can’t do this; specialty-only providers charge premium rates.

H2H runs pool table moves with a 3-crew protocol and pre-move equipment check: slate-lifting straps, leveling tools, replacement felt-removal materials (in case the felt tears during disassembly — rare but possible). We don’t guess at the disassembly sequence; we follow the manufacturer’s spec for your specific table. The crew that disassembles is the same crew that reassembles at the destination.

Leveling at the New Location

The critical post-move step is leveling the slate at the destination. H2H crews use professional leveling equipment to bring the slate to within tolerance before re-felting and re-attaching the rails. If your new floor is uneven (common in older St. Augustine and Riverside historic homes), we shim the cabinet legs to true-level the slate; this can add 60–90 minutes to the reassembly but it’s the difference between a usable table and one where balls roll on their own.

Felt Replacement (Optional)

If your existing felt is worn or you’re moving to a home where the table is the centerpiece, this is often the best time to replace the felt — disassembly is already complete and a new felt installation is a fraction of the normal labor cost.
