What Storage-in-Transit Actually Means

Storage-in-Transit (SIT) is short-term storage of your household goods between origin and final destination — your stuff is loaded onto the moving truck, but instead of going directly to the new home, it stages at a secure facility (or stays on the truck) until your final-delivery date. SIT typically covers gaps of 3 days to 90 days. In Northeast Florida specifically, climate-controlled SIT is the default — non-climate storage in our humidity is a moisture trap.

When You Actually Need SIT

Common SIT triggers in Northeast Florida: closing date on your new home slipped by 5–14 days; lease on your old place ends before you can take possession of the new; snowbird transition pause (returning to the Northeast for a season, want stuff stored not shipped back); downsizing pause (sorting through inherited items, estate decisions); military PCS with arrival-date gap. Climate Control + Inventory Tracking

H2H’s SIT partners in St. Johns County and Duval County are all climate-controlled (humidity-regulated) facilities. Each SIT shipment is barcoded and inventoried at the moment of staging — so when your final-delivery date arrives, every item is accounted for. Loss claims on SIT cargo are vanishingly rare with this protocol, and H2H carries cargo coverage on SIT shipments for the full storage period.

How H2H Quotes SIT

SIT is typically quoted as a daily-storage rate plus the final-delivery leg. For gaps of less than a week, we sometimes keep the cargo on the truck (parked at our secured Ponte Vedra Beach yard with surveillance) — that’s a cleaner model than transferring to a facility.
